Sounds crazy I know but it's true. By learning the grammar of another language you will look at your own language in a different light. You will look more closely at the grammar of your own language which will increase your knowledge and consequently your skill at using the language. Things we take for granted like tenses for example will be understood better. Alongside learning a new language your knowledge of your own language will improve. You will speak and write with more clarity and grasp aspects of your own language you may never have previously thought about.
A Greater Perspective on Everything from Current Events to Philosophy
By looking at the world through our own culture we only see a narrow view of things. If you can understand another language you will be able to get a completely new take on events. For example a report in a German newspaper about a certain event will differ from the same report in an English newspaper because it will have the German outlook on life incorporated into the story. If you are able to read the report in both English and German you will have a broader view of it.

As the world gets smaller we are coming closer and closer together and being able to speak another language will definitely increase your coolness. Imagine going on holiday somewhere and being able to speak in the native language. No more rip offs, overpriced meals or expensive arranged tours. You will be able to use the local transport and dine in the same cafes as the locals. Once it's recognised you can speak the language you will be treated with more respect.

In an increasingly global market foreign language speakers will be in increasing demand. Businesses will look highly on people who have the skill to speak another language. I know English is the language of business but being able to communicate in the language of your customers or business partners will hold you in high esteem. Just being able to put on your resume that you are fluent in another language will give you the advantage over other applicants. Once you master a new language your efforts will be well rewarded.
